The WRK Group, Pennrose, and the Wilmington Housing Authority are so pleased to complete construction on some of the first phase of 600 mixed-income housing units! Throughout the month of July, the first wave of Riverside residents transitioned to their new units, which feature central heating and air conditioning, washer and dryer units, and dishwasher, as well as energy efficient windows and building materials. To celebrate this milestone, we are hosting two upcoming events:

• Imani Village Community Day: Join us at Kingswood Community Center on Saturday, August 13^th from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. A new chapter in Riverside’s history is beginning, and you’re invited to celebrate with us! Imani Village, the new residential development in our community, is officially opening to its first residents this summer. This is only the first part of our $300 million plan to invest in the people of Riverside, and we want to say thank you for your support so far. Join us on Saturday, August 13th from 11am-2pm at Kingswood Community Center for our Imani Village Community Day. This FREE event features fun for the whole family, including food, games, kids’ activities and entertainment and school supply giveaway.

• Imani Village Grand Opening: Join us at Imani Village’s Grand Opening, located at 1400 Todds Lane, on Tuesday, August 16^th from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. The Riverside neighborhood was originally built to create affordable housing for White veterans returning from World War II. The GI bill, which gave many returning veterans the opportunity to obtain a mortgage, home, and in time, the development of generational wealth, didn’t necessarily extend to returning Black veterans. Imani Village represents a transition from a community that has been historically devalued to one that is thriving with appropriate social services that allows families to flourish.
